SINGAPORE, Sept 2 (Reuters) - The Financial Times and the Wall Street Journal carried the following stories in their Asia print and/or Web site editions on Tuesday. Reuters has not verified these stories and does not vouch for their accuracy. FINANCIAL TIMES (www.ft.com) -- Yasuo Fukuda, Japan's prime minister, stunned the political establishment by resigning, becoming the second Japanese leader in a row to quit within a year of taking office. -- India on Monday appointed the finance ministry's top bureaucrat, Duvvuri Subbarao, as governor of the country's central bank, a surprise choice that comes as the economy wrestles with high inflation and slowing growth. -- South Korea, Thailand and Indonesia reported slowing rates of growth in consumer prices, prompting suggestions that Asian inflation has peaked and probably monetary policy tightening with it. WALL STREET JOURNAL (www.wsj.com) -- Google Inc <GOOG.O> plans to launch its own browser, in the latest twist in a battle with Microsoft <MSFT.O>. The open-source software is designed to make it easier and faster to browse the Web, the company said. -- Shionogi & Co <4507.T> is buying Sciele Pharma <SCRX.O> for $1.1 billion as Japanese firms take advantage of lower global stock prices.
