KOLKATA, India, Dec 10 (Reuters) - A train carrying passengers and soldiers from India's troubled northeast jumped the rails, killing at least one and injuring dozens, an official said on Monday.

The Brahmaputra Mail, travelling from Dibrugarh to capital New Delhi, derailed shortly before Sunday midnight, disrupting the rail connection to the northeast region.

Television pictures showed rescue workers struggling to free people trapped inside.

A railway official said sabotage couldn't be ruled out as the train was coming from an area racked by separatist and tribal insurgencies for the past 60 years.

"Any train travelling in this region has a high concentration of security forces and we will start an investigation to see if fish-plates were removed to cause the accident," Trikal Rabha, a railway spokesman, told Reuters.

The person killed was a pantry worker.
