KABUL, June 18 (Reuters) - The Afghan army on Wednesday began its operation to drive Taliban insurgents from villages on the outskirts of Kandahar city, the defence ministry said.

The ministry did not give further details about the operation in Arghandab which lies to the north of Kandahar city. (Reporting by Sayed Salahuddin; Editing by Valerie Lee)
