ISLAMABAD, July 3 (Reuters) - Pakistani paramilitary forces fired tear gas at hundreds of students from a radical mosque in Islamabad on Tuesday, and gunshots were heard, the Aaj Television news channel reported. The government had hitherto refrained from taking action against the clerics and students from Lal Masjid, the Red Mosque, out of fear that it could provoke threatened suicide attacks. Authorities have been locked in a tense stand-off for months with the student movement, which is seeking to impose Taliban-style social values in the Pakistani capital.
