TOKYO, April 20 (Reuters) - A man with a gun holed up inside a building used by a local gang in a Tokyo suburb and fired several shots at police outside, Japanese media reports said on Friday.

Television footage showed police cars lined up on a street in a residential area of Machida, on the west side of the capital, and reports said some shots had hit the police vehicles.

Separately, police said a man had been shot outside a convenience store in an adjacent city. It was not clear whether the two cases were linked.

The incidents follow Tuesday's fatal shooting of the mayor of the southern city of Nagasaki by a suspected gangster.
