Group says 9,474 Somali civilians die in insurgency

MOGADISHU, Sept 16 (Reuters) - Some 838 Somali civilians have been killed since June, bringing the total to have died in an insurgency that began early last year to 9,474, a local human rights group said on Tuesday.

"We have recorded 838 civilian deaths between June and today, with 1,329 injured," Yasin Ali Gedi, vice chairman of the Elman Peace and Human Rights Organisation, told Reuters. (Reporting by Abdi Sheikh)
