WASHINGTON, Sept 27 (Reuters) - President George W. Bush met with Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi on Thursday and expressed his concerns about Myanmar, the White House said.

"President Bush thanked Minister Yang for China's assistance in facilitating United Nations Special Envoy (Ibrahim) Gambari's visit to Burma," Gordon Johndroe, spokesman for the White House National Security Council, said.

"President Bush expressed his concern for the people of Burma and asked Minister Yang that China use its influence in the region to help bring a peaceful transition to democracy in Burma," Johndroe said using the country's former name.

Bush invited Yang to the Oval Office during the Chinese official's previously scheduled White House meeting with national security adviser Stephen Hadley.
