BAGHDAD, March 1 (Reuters) - Dozens of loud explosions rocked southern Baghdad on Thursday evening, Reuters witnesses said. The blasts, which sounded like mortar bombs, appeared to be coming from the city's volatile Doura district.

A U.S. military spokeswoman said she had no information on the blasts. U.S. and Iraqi forces have launched a new security crackdown in Baghdad aimed at halting raging sectarian violence.
