Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) rangers stand next to the carcass of a female elephant that died from the prolonged drought near the Galana River at Tsavo East National Park, southeast of Kenya's capital Nairobi, October 8, 2009. Over 80 elephants have died in the park as successive failed rain seasons in Kenya have led to a drought that experts say is the worst in the country since 1996. Some of the elephants have died of thirst while others have starved due to lack of ample vegetation or succumb to sickness and infections characterised by damaged immune systems.
