Cleaners stand in water as they scrub the outside of the National Grand Theatre in Beijing July 11, 2008. Beijing's National Grand Theatre, nicknamed the "egg", is constantly cleaned due to the city's pollution that leaves a layer of dirt and dust atop the glass structure. China is spending 140 billion yuan ($20.34 billion) to combat chronic pollution and create a clean, green Beijing which it hopes will promote domestic stability and showcase a newly confident nation to the rest of the world for the August 8-24 Olympic Games.
