An Afghan man casts his ballot in a polling station during the presidential elections in Kabul August 20, 2009. Sporadic attacks hit Afghan towns when polls opened on Thursday for a presidential election that Taliban fighters have vowed to disrupt, but the United Nations said the turnout was encouraging.
