Bolivian President Evo Morales reads a newspaper during a hunger strike at the presidential palace in La Paz, April 13, 2009. Morales entered the fifth day of a hunger strike in protest of opposition lawmakers' efforts to block an election reform law. Rightist opponents fear that the bill, which has already been partially approved, would give Morales an edge in the legislature by assigning more seats to poor, indigenous parts of the energy-rich country where he is popular. The placard above him reads, (L) "Electoral Law now! Let the hunger strike continue" and (R) "National Confederation of Small Businesses in defense of democracy and respect for the people's vote".
