A giant metal statue of a Wisent towers is seen over a field near the village of Dudichi, some 115 km (71.5 miles) southwest of Minsk July 20, 2007. Wisents are the largest wild animals in Belarus and the country's national symbol.

Police disperse opposition activists during a protest in the town of Baranovichi some 150 km (93.2 miles) southeast of Minsk September 10, 2007. Police in Belarus on Monday detained a group of opposition activists for staging an unlawful protest and held two journalists, including a Reuters photographer, who were covering the event.
