GBP19,740 - GBP26,125 net Be there when it matters. What is a HSP? When humanitarian emergencies arise, our dedicated HSP Team forms the backbone of Oxfam's immediate and most valuable response. Experienced in working in areas of the world where humanitarian crises have occurred, the results achieved by our HSPs are truly astounding. A diverse and international group, they provide support where it's needed most,working with communities, other Oxfam teams and partner organisations to provide emergency aid and pave the way for long-term development work. What you'll be doing as a HSP In the event of Oxfam helping to remedy the humanitarian implications of conflict or natural disasters, you'll be there to provide vital technical assistance. You'll make sure all health issues are understood and promoted, as well as mobilise whole communities to proactively respond to the situations themselves. In particular, you'll assess public health risks, lead a team of national and international health promoters and identify any unmet needs that affect the population. And within the context of each new environment, you'll implement appropriate health promotion initiatives, monitoring and evaluating the programme as you go. What's more, you'll involve the men and women of these populations in the planning of public health activities, and recruit and train staff when on deployment. What are we looking for With a graduate qualification in Public Health or similar, you'll meet the academic requirements of the role. But with the conditions our HSPs find themselves in, you'll need more than just a degree. Above anything else, we value first-hand experience in emergency situations. With a background of community based experience in one or more areas eg community Development, and Community water supply, adult education and HIV/AIDS, you'll bring much needed structure and support to the most difficult environments. You'll also be confident in people management and capacity building, have strong communications skills and have a collaborative approach to your work, along with sensitivity to cultural differences and the ability to work in a whole range of cultural contexts. It's also essential you be able to communicate fluently in either Spanish or French,with good spoken and written English and be able to work effectively in the most challenging circumstances.
