Handicap International is an international organisation specialised in the field of disability. Non-governmental, non-religious, non-political and non-profit making, it works alongside people with disabilities, whatever the context, offering them assistance and supporting them in their efforts to become self-reliant. Since its creation, the organisation has set up programmes in approximately 60 countries and intervened in many emergency situations. It has a network of eight national associations (Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Switzerland, United Kingdom, USA) which provide human and financial resources, manages projects and raises awareness of Handicap International's actions and campaigns.
Context of the post :
In 2006, Handicap International has entered a development phase in Pakistan and is conducting two projects for disabled people for the period 2006-2009, one related to physical rehabilitation, the other related to community based rehabilitation.
On physical rehabilitation, HI is working with the Pakistan Institute of Prosthetic and Orthotic Sciences (PIPOS) since the earthquake. Late 2006, HI and PIPOS signed a partnership agreement for 3 years, with the objective to support PIPOS to run, manage and follow-up the activities of the 5 rehabilitation centres created during emergency phase, and to ensure the quality of the services delivered.
HI is bringing technical resource and managerial support to PIPOS, through 2 technical advisors (one P&O and one Physiotherapist)until these centres can offer a comprehensive multidisciplinary approach.

Job description:
To deliver support and expertise for the overall project objectives through the development of staff in our partner organisations:
For PRSP :
- Carry out on the job training to reinforce the role of physiotherapy in the overall practices of the center (Deliver formal training with a focus on the P and O approach)
- Work on specific PT assessments according to patient pathologies
- Supporting staff in their job organisation (having a better organisation of patient treatment and overall centre organisation) and work on the referral form for the CBR center.
- Supply of raw material, components and equipment for the centres
For PIPOS :
- Support the PT teacher at PIPOS (follow up of a previous short term mission "training the trainer")
- Improve physio department in PIPOS and reinforce Physio practice
- Develop the multidisciplinary approach (working closely with P&O)

Constraints : (distance from facilities, frequent travelling in different town, climate, living conditions)
Profile sought :
 Be a PT with at least 3 years experience including international experience in developing countries
 Strong knowledge of assessments, global patient approach, multidisciplinary patient approach
 Experience in delivering training and managing a team
 Excellent communication skills for working with the partner
 PT who has already working in a Muslim country is a plus
 Languages: English compulsory, French or/and Urdu is an advantage
Start date : 14 January 2008
Remuneration : Volunteer or salaried status based on experience
Volunteer : 750 or 850€ + allowance, accommodation, medical coverage and insurance
Salaried : 1960 to 2150€ monthly gross salary + benefits
