Save the Children UK has over 40 years of experience working in Somalia/Somaliland in the areas of emergencies, education, health, water & sanitation and food security & livelihoods. We are currently working in Hiran region of Central Somalia, Somaliland and in Puntland. The self declared state of Somaliland and autonomous state of Puntland. Save the Children works in partnership with credible state/government institutions, local administrations and emerging civil society actors. There is tremendous opportunity for Save the Children to make a significant change and positive impact for children in Somalia
Save the Children UK Hiran office was established in Belet Weyne in 1992 to respond to public health emergencies in the district. This was immediately followed by an agricultural support project and later by the Water and Sanitation project. The primary education project was later introduced to improve the provision of basic services to children. At present Save the Children in Somalia is focusing in working in improving childhood nutrition and livelihoods, primary education and health.
The Programme Manager will provide leadership and management support to ensure that a comprehensive, coordinated and cohesive programme of activities is implemented in Hiran Region, Somalia. The post requires strong people and programme management experience and strong analytical and conceptual skills to think and plan strategically and evaluate options. Strong diplomatic and influencing skills to interact with donors, government and programme partners are essential. The successful candidate will be able to manage, support and motivate a diverse team in a difficult environment and having excellent communication skills are essential for the role to succeed. The programme manager will also lead in strengthening coordination and collaboration within and across programme teams, ensuring constructive communication and positive working environment.
