Who we are
Oxfam is a worldwide organisation that employs over 6,000 people in more than 80 countries to overcome poverty and suffering. We believe that in a world rich in resources, these aren't just facts of life, but injustices which must be overcome. Such is the humanitarian climate in the Somali capital of Mogadishu it recently experienced the worst fighting since the collapse of the government in 1991. And with some 1.5 million people in Somalia, including 1.25 million in lower and middle Shabelle, requiring vital aid, we've never been more active in helping this region's communities change their lives for good.

The role
You'll help meet the need for lasting change in Mogadishu by developing quality standards for WASH scale-up activities. Central to this integrated WASH and livelihoods initiative, you'll bring the reliable strategic leadership and strengthen our response capacity. You'll also build a deliverable WASH programme and represent Oxfam in WASH co-ordination forums, while working closely with international partners to get the most out of this comprehensive programme. And you'll leave a lasting impact on your teams and colleagues through dedicated mentoring schemes, passing on expertise in the close working relationships you develop.

What we are looking for
With this targeted response needed to impact the difficult conditions in Mogadishu, we're looking for a dedicated professional who can perform under the most testing circumstances. As such, you'll have a relevant qualification in public health engineering, along with unrivalled experience and knowledge of WASH. As the primary response for problems the moment they arise, you'll have very strong analytical skills and a real knack for strategic thinking. You'll also have sound representation skills, public health awareness and reliable levels of English. And while your experience working in complex humanitarian environments is preferable, we'll value your understanding of the rapidly changing Somali context as much as anything.

To apply
At Oxfam, we believe that every aspect of our work can lead to a positive outcome. If you share this vision and commitment, then you're exactly what we're looking for. Make the most of this considerable challenge and scope for personal fulfilment by finding out more or applying at www.Oxfam.org.uk/jobs quoting ref: INT2473
