I. Background on ACTED

ACTED (Agency for Technical Cooperation and Development) is an apolitical and non-confessional international relief agency created in Afghanistan. The first projects were initiated in Kabul in 1993 to bring relief to populations affected by more than 15 years of conflict. As of today, ACTED is active on 4 continents and in 20 countries. The organization employs approximately 100 international staff and more than 2000 national staff. The headquarters for the organization are located in Paris (France). ACTED develops about 150 projects a year in such diversified activities as Emergency Relief, Food Security, Health Promotion Network, Economic Development, Education and training, Microfinance, Advocacy - Institutional Support and Regional Dialogue, and Cultural promotion.

In Uganda, ACTED has been active since May 2007. The organization works in Northern Uganda as well as in Karamoja on a cross border basis with Kenya. In the North, ACTED supports the early recovery process with a specific focus on the needs of returning populations displaced by years of conflict. It also expands access, retention, equity and quality of primary education. In Karamoja, the focus is on enhancing food security and resilience to shocks/disasters, especially droughts as well as improving the primary education sector.

II. Job Duties and Responsibilities
ACTED is currently implementing a project in Oyam District, Northern Uganda, which aims at improving primary level education facilities. As part of this program, ACTED intends to improve the teaching capabilities of teachers. Based in Lira, and under the direct supervision of the Program Manager, the Teacher Trainers responsibilities include:

 Develop a curriculum and related input for a teacher-training certificate, Principals' training modules, Parent and Teachers' Association Operation Manual and psychosocial material that can be imbedded in the teacher-training curriculum. Travel to assigned schools to conduct training and professional development workshops;
 Provide periodic analytical overviews progress, highlighting achievements via indicators, strengths, opportunities, weaknesses, challenges/constraints, lessons learned and ways forward;
 Identify and procure a 'library' of necessary trainer and teacher training materials and resources.
 Actively participate in coordination meetings in order to connect with other actors in the teacher training and education field;
 Liaise with the Ministry of Education and other appropriate authorities in respect of operations, planning, coordination and information sharing for education programming to ensure that ACTED's education program complements national education goals and objectives.

III. Qualifications Required
 University degree in education or related field;
 Strong background in education, participatory teacher training and learner-centred teaching methodologies
 Experience in education management in the developing world;
 Good knowledge and understanding of education policy issues, including knowledge of planning in emergency and post-conflict environments;
 Ability to coach and motivate others;
 High energy level and excellent communication skills;
 Strong deductive reasoning, problem solving, decision-making, and creative abilities
 Ability to thrive in a fast paced environment;
 Ability to work with culturally diverse groups of people;
 Ability to travel and work in difficult conditions and under pressure.

IV. Conditions

Living allowance, medical cover, food, housing and transportation ensured by ACTED.
