| Description: | The Vice President for Finance and Administration serves as Chief Financial Officer and is responsible for the overall management of Lutheran World Relief's (LWR) fiscal planning and financial management systems. In addition, s/he will model premier support of other LWR departments and motivate the finance and administration staff to do the same. S/he serves on the LWR Leadership Team. S/he provides leadership and oversight of LWR's administrative operations, information technology, and facilities management.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Financial Management:
Serve as LWR's corporate treasurer, ensuring that LWR's financial plans and operational decisions are made with consideration of stewardship of financial, human and material resources; ensure that these resources are managed efficiently for the benefit of its mission and programs and within the parameters defined in LWR Board policies and within strategic and operational plans.
Closely monitor and analyze LWR's financial performance throughout the year. Provide in-depth business and financial analysis for organizational planning and decision making. Provide ongoing, clear, succinct analysis of LWR financial results and trends for president, leadership team and Board of Directors. Supervise the preparation of LWR's annual budget, annual audit, and timely, accurate and appropriate financial reports. Ensure that financial reporting meets the needs of the Board, president/leadership team, and managers within LWR. Manage LWR financial assets; develop and provide oversight of a comprehensive system of executive policies, procedures and internal controls for the sound management of all LWR resources, particularly the receipt, recording, acknowledging, custody, investment, and disbursement of all funds. Ensure that LWR's policies, practices and operations are aligned with Maryland Association of Nonprofit's Standards of Excellence certification and assist with recertification as needed. Ensure compliance with audit, legal and donor requirements, including IRS and other federal regulations for 501(c) 3 organizations and related state regulations. In cooperation with the VP for International Programs, develop and oversee procedures for the regular processing, review and analysis of financial reports from overseas offices and grantees. Ensure that appropriate procedures and arrangements are in place and followed for seeking, receiving, storing, handling, shipping and confirming distribution of in-kind material resources. Serve as primary staff liaison to Audit and Investment Committee of the Board of Directors. Lead annual planning process for Finance Department, including development of operational plan and departmental and individual deliverables in support of plan, and monitor achievement of deliverables. Provide leadership in development of overall LWR operational plan, with specific emphasis in support of Strategic Objectives relating to Key Institutional Capacities. Risk Management: Lead analysis of risk management for the organization; ensure that LWR has adequate insurance coverage and proper legal contracts in place. Ensure that organization's electronic information and paper records are maintained in sound fashion and that a disaster recovery plan is in place and reviewed periodically. Information Technology: Coordinate the ongoing assessment of information technology needs and recommend changes as needed to support LWR operations. Facilities Management: Serve as executive for LCC facilities-related issues. Serve as Assistant Secretary of the Lutheran Center Corporation (LCC), present relevant reports at LCC Board of Directors meetings, chair the Building Operating Committee, and interface on regular basis with building management company to ensure smooth operation of the Lutheran Center. Represent LWR on Lutheran Center Corporation related matters and operations as required. Other: Serve as primary staff liaison to the following external advisors/vendors: legal counsel, technology consultants/vendors. Other duties as may be assigned. Travel: up to 15% of time. Reports To: President Supervises: Director of Finance and Office Coordinator QUALIFICATIONS AND CORE COMPETENCIES: Deep commitment to LWR's core values and an ability to model those values in relationships with staff colleagues and external stakeholders. MBA, master's degree in a financial field or CPA. Demonstrated track record of successfully leading financial operations, including experience with not-for profit organization. Minimum of 10 years management experience required. International experience highly desirable. Demonstrated success in managing all financial management activities of an organization including internal control systems, budgeting, reporting, monitoring. US government grant or contract experience highly desirable. Demonstrated leadership in integrating financial and business analysis into overall organizational strategic planning and program development. Solid understanding of human resource programs including benefits, compensation, pension analysis, and salary administration. Demonstrated ability to lead an organization in the development of an efficient and effective information technology capacity. Experience with facilities management desirable. Demonstrated skill in building strong, effective teams. Strong organizational skills to deliver results when faced with multiple, time-sensitive priorities. Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively present complex financial data to non-financially trained professionals. SALARY AND TERMS: Salary is negotiable and commensurate with experience. This full-time position is in the grade level 29 and is located in Baltimore, MD. The entry-level salary for this position is $X. This position is an exempt position from the fair labor standards act. An excellent benefit package is offered.
