The ABColombia Group is a project of a coalition of five leading development agencies, CAFOD, Christian Aid UKI, Oxfam GB, SCIAF and TrĂ³caire, which engages decision-makers in the UK and Irish governments, the European Union and United Nations to advance the protection of the civilian population in Colombia, support the voice of civil society, obtain lasting solutions to the humanitarian crisis, and promote a negotiated settlement to the armed conflict in the country.
We are looking for a dynamic and efficient Information and Advocacy Officer to be part of the two member ABColombia team and to provide support to the Programme and Advocacy Manager.
The Information and Advocacy Officer will have responsibility for managing the administrative systems of the ABColombia office; managing information systems including monitoring news on Colombia in English and Spanish; re-launching, developing and maintaining the ABColombia website; and developing a briefing pack on Colombia. The role will provide assistance to the Programme and Advocacy Manager in maintaining an up-to-date analysis of the conflict in Colombia, and its implications for civil society, democracy, human rights and forced displacement.
The role also engages in advocacy with policymakers, including responding to urgent actions from partners and representing ABColombia in private and public meetings from time to time. The Information and Advocacy Officer will report to the Programme and Advocacy Manager, and will maintain positive relationships with a broad network of stakeholders in the UK, Europe, USA and Latin America, and will task manage two interns.
Educated to degree level, you will have significant experience of administration and budgetary control, information management and advocacy work. You will have experience of working in networks, and you will have lived in or researched Colombia or have experience in a different Latin America country. You will have experience of managing and developing websites, and be able to read and summarise information quickly in English and Spanish.
You will have excellent verbal and written communications skills, the ability to inspire and convince, and be able to communicate complex issues in both written and spoken English and Spanish.
