Description:This job is within a restructured Advocacy Unit within a new directorate. The SAL (Strategy, Advocacy & Learning) directorate seeks to ensure that Concern's programmes are supported to reach the highest quality, that we have evidence of impact and learning and that our advocacy is grounded and based on our learning. SAL has primary responsibility for advocacy and will lead on the identification of key issues for Concern's advocacy and on development of strategies to deliver on advocacy objectives.
• Contribute to and support Concern's work in advocacy through research, analysis and synthesis of knowledge and learning from a variety of sources related to hunger with a clear focus on Concern's vision, mission, values, policies and target group.

• Produce position papers, briefing papers and other materials required to disseminate Concern's position and learning on specific issues related to hunger.

• Establish appropriate contacts and represent Concern with key stakeholders on issues related to hunger and act as a focal point for hunger advocacy as appropriate.

• Represent Concern on key networks, groups and alliances related to hunger, as designated by the Head of the Advocacy Unit. This includes contributing to the work of the European Food Security Group.

• Ensure that Concern's experience and learning from our country programmes is part of external messaging wherever possible and facilitate links with key internal stakeholders (SAL advisers, specialists, country management) to promote this, providing analytical support as appropriate.

• Contribute to a coherent dissemination and communication strategy of Concern positions including campaigning or individual focused advocacy as determined by analysis of the specific issues.

• Establish productive and complementary working relations with other departments and staff members including other Advocacy Unit staff, SAL staff, Concern UK, Concern USA, Overseas Directorate, country staff and Directorate of Public Engagement. Working closely with the CEO who has been taking a lead on hunger advocacy is also a key responsibility.

Essential:
• Masters Degree in a related field.
• Demonstrable professional research and analytical capacity in economics, agricultural economics, development studies, or a related field.
• Experience and understanding of effective advocacy in donor and developing countries, with a focus on the rights of extremely poor people.
• Strong knowledge of the economic, social and political contexts within which development and humanitarian work takes place.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to produce succinct and authoritative briefing papers, policy documents and presentations.
• Competent in the use of modern information technology applications.
• Proven ability to work effectively both independently and in teams.
• A commitment to the vision, mission and values of Concern Worldwide
• Willingness to travel overseas, if required.

Desirable:
• Experience of working on global poverty or development issues.
• Work or research experience acquired within a developing country.
• Knowledge and understanding of agricultural and economic development and the international efforts to address hunger among extremely poor people.
