Action Against Hunger opened the mission in Malawi in 2002.
From July 2002, AAH has been involved in the designing of new National Nutrition Protocols for therapeutic and supplementary feeding in Malawi.
Currently (2008) the mission is at a low programming level. Actions are being taken to re-position us within the international and national humanitarian scene. Priorities are still HIV/Nutrition and foodsec (IGA). Further positioning in WASH is needed. The water and sanitation project manager will be part of the team already mobilized in Malawi. He/she will be in charge of the implementation of an emergency WASH program for the flood-affected population.

Main duties

• To improve the living conditions of people displaced due to floods
• Direct coordination and technical support to the WASH project with the help of experienced national staff
• Recruiting the members of the water and hygiene team
• Managing the members of the water and hygiene team, through training, counselling, establishing written objectives every month.
• Providing technical guidance
• Definition of new programmes / proposal writing / external reporting
• Coordination and reporting within Accion Contra el Hambre
• In close collaboration with the assistant administrator and the HoM follow up the expenses of the project budget lines and plans future spending.
• Responsible for the good functioning of the WASH logistics
• Relations with local authorities and partners

Profil:

• Technical profile and technical experience in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene sector, especially in groundwater prospection
• 3 years of work in humanitarian aid organizations in the field
• A first experience within ACFIN network will be a strong advantage
• Demonstrable experience in intervention in emergencies in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene projects
• Experience within exploratory missions and rapid assessment
• Strong capacity for analysis, good adaptation, communication and team work skills.
• Autonomy and capacity to manage stressful situations.
• Availability to start and travel at short notice
• Excellent written and spoken English is essential
• I.T. skills
• English : Compulsory spoken, read and written
• Spanish : Helpful spoken , read, written
