Description:Conflict Sensitivity Consultants (Oxfam GB)
Horn, East and Central Africa (HECA)
Nairobi, Kenya

Oxfam GB works in conflicted areas across the Horn, East and Central Africa to overcome poverty and suffering. Right now, we're building the capacity of our staff to ensure our humanitarian and development programmes are culturally and contextually sensitive, empower local communities, and contribute to building peace and security.

The role
We're looking for professionals with extensive experience in conflict-sensitive programming and mainstreaming to be part of a pre-qualified candidate register. Once on the register, you'll be called upon to provide consultancy on short-term conflict sensitive assignments. As one of our consultants, you'll work with country offices across the region to provide short-term conflict analysis and conflict sensitivity mainstreaming support.

The requirements
With experience using conflict-sensitive approaches and tools in a humanitarian context, you'll know how to mainstream conflict sensitivity into the project lifecycle. You'll also have thorough knowledge of peace building, conflict resolution and transformation. An integrated approach is essential for the development of our work, which is why you'll need experience linking conflict-sensitivity with other tools and initiatives. Well organised with pragmatic problem-solving skills, you'll be an excellent communicator with experience working in a multi-cultural environments and, ideally, a background in training and facilitation. While proficiency in a regional language is advantageous, fluency in English is essential.

The organisation
A simple, inescapable truth underlines everything we do at Oxfam. There's enough wealth in this world to go around. It's not unfortunate that people live in poverty. It's unjustifiable. It's not their problem. It's ours too. And with the right support, we can beat poverty and injustice. More than 8,000 people already commit their time and talents to our humanitarian and long-term development projects. Now we're looking for yours.

To apply
If your skills and experience meet the demands of this unique and challenging role, then we want to hear from you. At this stage, we're building a register of suitably qualified candidates we can call upon when the need arises. So, if you wish to be considered, please send your application and CV stating your availability to hecajobs@oxfam.org.uk or find out more and apply online at www.oxfam.co.uk/jobs using reference INT2716

Please note: All expressions of interest need to demonstrate experience, training and qualifications as detailed above. Please note we will only contact qualified individuals once the anticipated opportunities become available.

Closing date: 30 May 2008.
