Who we are
Wherever in the world they're based, the results achieved by our Humanitarian Support Professionals (HSPs) are truly astounding. Moving directly to areas of the world where humanitarian crises have arisen, they work closely with communities, other Oxfam teams and partner organisations to provide emergency aid and pave the way for long-term development work. They are leaders that Oxfam simply couldn't do without - and that's where you come in.

The role
Working to the Oxfam GB Strategic Steer, you'll help establish our organisation as a leading International NGO in food security and emergency livelihoods. With a focus on preventing acute malnutrition, you'll meet immediate food needs and protect, diversify and recover livelihoods. More specifically, you'll make sure Oxfam as an organisation is aware of critical humanitarian needs, support country and regional advisors in effective response and develop valuable capacity building strategies. In short, you'll bring order to some of the world's most pressing emergencies.

What we are looking for
With a genuine opportunity to save lives, this is one of Oxfam's most rewarding roles. You'll have a relevant post-grad qualification, like an MSc in Nutrition or Agriculture, and experience in emergency food security and livelihoods programmes in at least 3 countries. Often operating in difficult circumstances, you'll be familiar with the demands of emergency development work, and actively promote gender equality. And on a personal level, you'll be a first-class negotiator, with the strength of character that gains respect and favours leadership.

To apply
In return for your commitment to Oxfam, we'll give you valuable learning and development opportunities, along with genuine openings for career progression. And working for Oxfam's humanitarian department, you'll be among our most resilient and experienced professionals, delivering our efforts and seeing the outcome first-hand. Closing date: 3 June 2008.
