| Description: | Save the Children is committed to building organisational capacity to respond quickly to emergencies. This includes significantly increasing the number of experienced people we have available to deploy in emergencies, as well as identifying new sources of substantial emergency income, enabling us to play a leading role in delivering a strong Alliance response in the biggest new emergencies arising in 08/09.
The Regional Emergencies Advisor will be expected to lead and manage Save the Children's humanitarian work in the region, playing a leading role to improve the capacity of country management teams to prepare for, and deliver, successful emergency responses. The Regional Emergencies Advisor is a member of the regional leadership team for South and Central Asia in the International Operations Department and will participate in the development of global emergency policies and standards. The position will work closely with the Regional Director, the Regional Programme Manager and the Regional HR Manager and with the Global Emergencies Section to develop and maintain an overview of emergency preparedness and humanitarian response within the region, and build the capacity of the regional leadership team to respond effectively to emergencies.
As the Regional Emergencies Advisor, you will coordinate advice, guidance and training to country programmes on dealing with new, rapid-onset emergencies or scaling up of existing responses. You will be expected to monitor major developments in the region with potential humanitarian implications that are linked to preparedness, prevention and development programming. You will provide specific support to fragile countries (assisting in humanitarian programming, developing positions and strategies on humanitarian issues) and will play a key role in ensuring that country programmes develop effective Alliance emergency preparedness & response plans.
You will have significant experience of humanitarian or programme work and would have been involved in sharing knowledge across countries. You will need to have the credibility to represent the organization to regional bodies and donors and the inter-personal skills to influence and guide Country Directors and other senior managers and to work in a collaborative manner within the RO team.
