Position summary

Taking advantage of the opportunities in North America and UK by capitalising on the success and progress of the worldwide operations is a top priority of the global SOS Children's Villages organisation. The Regional Director for North America and the United Kingdom will strive to facilitate and further develop the programming, fundraising and communications functions of SOS National Associations in Anglophone countries.

Coming from an English speaking country (i.e. Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the UK or the USA), the Regional Director for North America and the UK will be based at the International Office in Austria. He/she will focus on the needs for coordination, cooperation, growth and development in the respective countries based on proven success factors of the international SOS Children's Villages organisation.

The position covers the areas of programming in the child care segment, fundraising and the development of strong, locally rooted SOS National Associations. Co-workers from various Function Areas on an international and continental level, as well as from member associations, will provide strong support to facilitate the different tasks performed by the Regional Director.


Priority tasks & responsibilities:

• Assisting in establishing a strong partnership between SOS National Associations and the SOS-Kinderdorf International (KDI) General Secretariat as equal partners in a co-operation. He/she accomplishes this by assisting in the anchoring of international policies and processes.
• Supporting and monitoring the process of strategic and operational planning in the region on the basis of the international strategy for 2009 - 2016 and the Continental Plan
• Providing direction and leadership toward the achievement of the organisation's philosophy, mission, strategy, and its annual goals and objectives
• Working with local Board members and management to enable them to fulfil their governance functions and to promote the development of the national association; interfaces between Board, staff and leadership of the national associations and the international General Secretariat
• Giving particular attention to Human Resources development, especially assuring that coaching and development opportunities are available
• Encouraging and facilitating information sharing and knowledge transfer among countries and associations in the region
• Assuring the international organisation and its mission, programmes, products and services are consistently presented in a strong, positive image to relevant stakeholders in the Anglophone market


Requirements:

• Educational background: University degree in management, business administration, economics or law
• 7+ years experience in NGOs in an Anglophone environment, thereof 5 + years in a management function
• Proven competence and expertise in creating, leading and facilitating dynamic networks
• Ability to contribute to the definition of standards and policies
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; very good knowledge of a second European language appreciated
• Sound judgement, a strategic outlook, a broad view, drive, enthusiasm and a passion for marketing/sales/fundraising
