Deadline:07 Aug 2008
Organisation:Save the Children UK
Location:United Kingdom
Type:contract
Salary:over 50 (000's USD)
Description:In late 2006 the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) agreed to establish an education cluster, alongside the other clusters already established under the humanitarian reform process to coordinate more effective humanitarian responses. This reflects a recognition of the vital role of education as a core element of first phase response in most emergencies. The IASC requested UNICEF and Save the Children to work together to establish the first cluster to be co-led by a UN agency and an International NGO. The arrangements have now been agreed and a global cluster unit established in Geneva in April 2008 (www.humanitarianreform.org for more info).

Alongside our responsibilities towards the cluster, the Save the Children alliance (as part of the Alliance Cooperation in Emergencies initiative, ACE) has agreed that developing our operational capacity in emergency education is a critical priority for the next 4 years.

In order to rise to these challenges an emergency education unit is being established. This will be based in the emergencies section of Save the Children UK. One of the top 5 indicators for the team in the present financial year is related to this:

"Positive feedback from stakeholders (gathered through a light evaluation exercise), and > £200k funding secured, for our co-leadership of the Education Cluster in Emergencies"
