Reuters AlertNet is a humanitarian news network based around a popular website. It aims to keep relief professionals and the wider public up-to-date on humanitarian crises around the globe.

The cornerstone of the AlertNet community is the AlertNet membership. Our members are non-discriminatory, non-profit civil society organisations that are actively involved in emergency relief. Currently, 420 NGOs in over 90 countries are members of the site.

The Membership and Communications Officer is at the frontline of AlertNet's communications with our member organisations. They will be responsible for supporting and engaging AlertNet's members so they get the most out of the membership experience, as well as developing new activities and services to benefit this key group.

In addition they will assist the Membership and Communications Manager in developing AlertNet's profile with other key stakeholders such as content partners, journalists and general public.

Duties

Members
-Quarterly required member update of Who works where
-Manage new member application process - research, outreach and administration
-Plan and organise member events and member outreach/meetings
-Work with Membership and Communications Manager to send out regular, timely and targeted emails to AlertNet's 420+ member organisations
-Be the first point of contact for all AlertNet member queries and general queries about AlertNet
-Create photo galleries
-Supporting AlertNet staff in the field with their NGO outreach
- Work with technical team to resolve all bugs and glitches relating to AlertNet's members
- Work with Membership and Communications Manager to develop new services for members, including a new area connecting aid workers and journalists

Content partners
- Recruitment of new content partners and maintenance of existing group

Marketing
- Contribute to the marketing of AlertNet to bring material to a wider audience
- Targeted promotion of new services and new AlertNet site

Other
-Editorial evening and weekend duty
-Opportunity to contribute blogs and articles to the site
-Opportunity for some travel related to the post

Person specification
- Essential - Previous experience in aid or development organisation, including field posting
- Essential - Communications/marketing background essential
- Desirable - Interest in humanitarian issues and aid sector essential
- Desirable - Event planning experience desirable
- Desirable - Experience with websites and content management systems
