Description:To plan for and implement project activities aimed at increasing access to improved stock, enhance poultry management skills and revitalize small-holder producer groups in poultry production systems. To play a key role in the current efforts to revitalize intensive poultry production in peri-urban Juba, Central Equatoria state.
Work very closely with Ministry of Animal Resources and Fishery (MARF) to revitalize public extension support through the private sector driven community-based veterinary health workers.
Work with the community to design appropriate animal husbandry, pest and disease management and vaccination strategies, follow-up and monitor their implementation
Develop training modules for the community based animal health workers and conduct TOT refresher courses for the field agents
Through a contact farmers' field approach, demonstrate diverse ranges of poultry production options for adoption by the target groups.
Develop a comprehensive training plan and implement a series of trainings to improve the poultry keepers' animal husbandry skills, disease identification capacities and basic vaccines and drugs management
Facilitate farmer access to improved poultry stocks
Characterize local birds and impart skills in breed upgrading, selection and crossbreeding among poultry keepers and develop breeding units in villages
Formulate poultry feeds utilizing locally available material
Develop the organizational management of participating women groups and strengthen their capacity in poultry production and business skills
Systematically monitor all program activities and present timely and comprehensive reports as per project requirements and ensure the information and data are stored in a systematic manner to easy retrieval and reference.
Document all project activities and outcomes and provide a feedback to all the relevant stakeholders to ensure that field experiences and knowledge are shared to inform futher development.
Perform any other duties as may be accorded by the supervisor
Participate in community sensitization campaigns as well as the planning and execution of avian influenza and other outbreak surveillance activities
Build local capacities in all aspects of avian influenza prevention and control
REQUIRED:

A minimum qualification of BSc Veterinary Medicine/Animal Production
A minimum of 5 years proven experience in animal production or animal health sectors
Skills in animal husbandry, feed formulations, chicken stock upgrading, diseases management, and management of poultry nutritional deficiencies will be essential
Must be conversant with the key facts and global developments with regard to avian influenza
Should have excellent computer and language skills
Be comfortable with budgeting and financial reporting
Must be prepared to work in conflict-prone areas and live in harsh conditions
Must be detail oriented, but able to plan and work in a global context
