Description:WASH Adviser - Regional Public Health Engineer (Oxfam GB) Fixed - Term contract
Home based in a South Asian country with extensive travel within the region.

South Asia is extremely vulnerable to natural disasters. Between 1990 and 2008, over 750 million people across the region - 50% of the population - were affected by natural disasters, with almost 230,000 losing their lives. Today, some 600 million people live on less than US$1.25 a day, so even small scale disasters can tip many into destitution. In this role, you'll help to ensure that this region has the right public health facilities in place to build for the future and recover quickly if disaster strikes.

The role
This role could see you deployed to a number of different countries, including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and possibly India, and for differing amounts of time. Wherever you're working, you'll use your technical expertise to help us implement our public health strategies and programmes. We'll look to you to make relevant recommendations on response programmes and to produce initial assessments, concept notes and proposals. You can also expect to assess and build our capacities, applying different approaches and methods. Throughout, you'll need to make sure that our technical work in public health is closely aligned with our food security and livelihoods programming.

What we're looking for
You should be educated to degree level in a public health discipline with community-based experience in a relevant area such as development or water supply, and you will certainly have worked on public health emergencies recently. You should have an inclusive management style, excellent assessment, analytical and planning skills, and experience of training and capacity building. Good spoken English is essential.
